Lisanti Top Vote Getter In Democratic Primary

Incumbent Del. Glen Glass won one of the Republican nominations for two House seats in the Route 40 area subdistrict 34B, while County Councilwoman Mary Ann Lisanti led a crowded Democratic field in Tuesday’s primary election.

Unofficial returns have Lisanti leading the field of five by 544 votes over Marla Posey-Moss in second, who had a 108-vote lead over Patrick Murray in third.

Lisanti was far enough head to claim one of the two nominations, while Posey-Moss, who made it the 2010 general election, appeared to have just enough of a lead, pending absentee ballots, to secure the second place on the Democratic ballot.

The first count of absentee ballots is at 10 a.m. Thursday, followed by counts of provisional ballots at 10 a.m. July 2 and a second round of absentee ballots at 10 a.m. July 7.

Glass garnered almost 48 percent of the votes cast in the Republican primary, almost 1,000 votes ahead of Mike Blizzard in second place, who had almost a 200-vote lead over Beth Boyson, the third candidate.

Given the relatively low number of votes cast in the primary, it appears likely Blizzard will join Glass on the GOP ticket in November.

One of the 34A seats is open because incumbent Del. Mary-Dulany James is running for the district’s State Senate seat.

In subdistrict 35B, covering Bel Air and Abingdon, Cassandra Beverley, a school board member, with almost 77 percent of the fewer than 2,200 votes cast in the primary voting, easily claimed the Democratic nomination over Jeff Dinger.

Beverley will face three-term incumbent Del. Susan McComas in the general election; McComas did not have a primary opponent.
